Crock Pot Split Pea and Ham Bone Soup




Ingredients

1/4 tsp. chipolte chili powder or cayenne pepper
2 carrots, peeled and finely chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 ham bone or 2 ham hocks
1 small onion, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb. green split peas
4 C. chicken stock
2 bay leaves
2 C. water

Directions

Place the peas, celery, carrots, garlic, onion, water, stock, bay leaves, chili powder and ham bone in a 5 quart crock pot. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until peas are tender. Remove the ham bone and bay leaves. Pull the ham off the bone and shred adding it back to the crock pot. Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
